Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau greenlit for anime. Mangaka Umeda Abi shares thoughts on the announcement
Manga Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau (Whale Calves Sing on the Sand) has been given an anime adaptation.
The fantasy based manga run in the monthly Mystery Bonita magazine tells the story of inhabitants living on the mud whale, a utopian island that floats along the surface of endless sand and sea. Nine out of ten of the people that inhabit the mud whale have the ability to use a special power called saimia. Saimia is both a blessing and a curse as it causes an early death in those that have it.
The protagonist Chakuro and his group of friends have stumbled across other islands but have never met any other people that was not one of their own. That is, until one day. Chakuro discovers an island as large as the mud whale and meets a girl that changes his life forever.
Writer and illustrator Umeda Abi commented on the announcement saying ‘if it exposes more people the story, it will be a very good thing for the work and the characters. The mud whale and the people living there will be animated and I am looking forward to it’.
The monthly magazine Mystery Bonita stated that they will make announcements about the anime from time to time in subsequent issues.
