Welcome to the Ballroom Anime Adaptation to Air in July
Takeuchi Tomo’s award-winning manga Welcome to the Ballroom (Ballroom e Youkoso) is getting an anime adaptation that will air in July, the summer anime season of 2017. The official website launched its first teaser graphic reading “Welcome to the Ballroom. Youth, Passionately Dance”.
Welcome to the Ballroom has been published in the Shounen Monthly Magazine since November of 2011 with a total of 8 volumes so far. The shounen sports manga follows Fujita, a middle schooler who has drifted through life aimlessly without finding any stable friends or a passion for anything. One day Fujita is attacked by a gang and is saved a mysterious stranger. The man is not a martial arts master but a ballroom dance instructor. Fujita reluctantly takes a beginners dance class but quickly finds himself entranced by a dance prodigy named Shizuku. Fujita unwittingly finds himself caught up in the high paced world of competitive dance.
The Welcome to the Ballroom anime adaptation will be directed by Itazu Yoshimi who served as the key animator for Paprika and fellow sports anime Eyeshield 21. Kenichi Suemitsu (K, Tōken Ranbu) will serve as the series writer and Kishida Takahiro (Baccano, Durarara!!) will design the characters. Haikyuu!! crew member Yuuki Hayashi will handle the music and studio Production I.G. will produce the series.
