Jonah Hill & Emma Stone to Star in Netflix Series ‘Maniac’
Dark comedy Maniac is based on an original 2014 Norwegian TV Series of the same name written and directed by Hakon Bast Mossige and starring Espen PA Lervaag. The English remake of the series will be directed by True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga and written by Patrick Sommerville (The Leftovers). Fukunaga will be joined by oscar nominees Jonah Hill and Emma Stone who will executive produce and star in the series. Hill and Stone will collaborate for the first time since 2007’s Superbad.
The original series follows a young thirty-something man named Espen who lives a magical life with every day being a party. Everything goes amazing for Espen in every situation imaginable. Problem is, it is all in his head. Espen is actually a patient in a psychiatric hospital and lives in his own fantasy world. (original series trailer below)
Netflix picked up Maniac for a straight to series 10 episode order. Netflix will partner with Paramount TV and Anonymous Content studios to produce the series. This is the second collaboration between Netflix and Cary Fukunaga, with the first being African civil war drama Beasts of no Nation.
